What Is a Sunroom

Does it need to describe what it is? I’m not fully sure as Sunroom is a Scottish term but I think it’s referring to a room that looks similar to a conservatory, but with a solid roof? Garden sunrooms or Orangeries are available in all shapes and sizes, most importantly a Sunroom can now be built specifically for your specific needs at home. A thoughtfully designed Sunroom will feel like a natural extension to your home from the inside and complement the architecture of the building and your garden from the outside. We can also carry out a visual 3D laptop presentation in the comfort of your own home and we can design your Sunroom together and let you see the finished article before you actually buy anything. This can be helpful to you and will let you see all sunroom options, availability and finished sunroom designs. Our expert designers are more than happy to provide this service to make sure that your completed sunroom is exactly how you wished and imagined it allowing you to visualise your dream before we build or provide a sunroom quote for you

Only when the Sunroom has been fully designed and we have made all the practical arrangements for your conservatory, including the preparation of working drawings and obtaining relevant permissions from your local Council for planning permission and Building warrants should you require these as we can also advise you of any requirements if these are needed we can then manufacture the components in our workshops.

What are the benefits of a Sunroom?

Adding a fully insulated UPVC sunroom in Glasgow, Lanarkshire and any other area throughout central Scotland is one way of creating a bright and comfortable new living space to your home, but as there are so many options these days it can become mind boggling trying to make up your mind which design to go for as there are standard designs such as an Edwardian or Victorian which are built more than any other styles to the much simpler lean to design as well as many other designs. Pressure from a sales person pushing you to sign a contract or choose a design can make it even harder - this is where the 3D laptop design in your living room really helps you to choose the perfect sunroom for you and most importantly, without any pressure or hassle.

With all the recent changes in sunrooms building regulations there are more and more conservatory companies not entirely up to date on these ever changing sunroom regulations and some who quite simply could not care less and are happy to sell you anything rather than something that is the right product for your home and garden. One main change is that all sunrooms must be insulated whether they are being heated or not, these changes have been incorporated due to the high volume of so called sunroom specialists advising their clients that they can put heating into a sunroom upon receipt of the completion certificate even though the sunroom has been built with very little insulation in it.

We are here to ensure that you receive the correct guidance on the design, build type, construction method of your proposed sunroom build and most of all maintaining that you choose the correct firm to construct your sunroom at a fair and reasonable cost to you.

We can supply you with a free quote for construction of a completely new sunroom with a solid roof or quote to replace an existing conservatory roof with a retrofit solid roof which involves a statutory obligation to submit a Building Regulations application. The scope the updated certificate number EWS550 now covers England, Wales and Scotland to facilitate mandatory legal technical compliance procedures for site locations in all three countries.

The thermal performance specification to meet Scottish Building Regulations is more demanding and the required U-value of 0.15W/m2K (calculated to BS EN ISO 6946:2007) is achieved by supplementing the Solid Roof’s external finish with a breathable membrane and 142mm Kingspan TEK structural insulated panel roof assembly and with further insulation of Kooltherm K18 insulated dry lining plasterboard internal finish to provide an additional non-bridged layer which is 42.5mm overall in element thickness.
